Scott Shannon, the web developer, brought out the webcam MTU will be using to stream & capture the progression of the frozen car. A live stream will be available on frozencar.com as well as on MTU's website for Winter Carnival. The resulting documentation will be transferred into a time lapse file for later use.

www.frozencar.com

The official Frozen Car website has launched! The website includes a description of the project, a gallery which will evolve over time, directions and a link to this blog. Brandy Tichonoff, MTU's Director of New Media, is working out a plan to have a webcam installed to view the progress of the Frozen Car. Our thanks to our coooool web designer Claire McConaughy for her generosity with her talents and time for this site. Check it out! http://www.frozencar.com

Jennifer Donovan ...

The Frozen Car received ultra support when MTU's PR Director Jennifer Donovan (right) made arrangements with various university officials like Gloria Melton (left), the Dean of Students.
It is interesting to note that while Mary was negotiating the project with John Aho, Jennifer had seen an article about Sue's work published in the Frederick News Post (Maryland.) The article briefly mentioned her collaboration with Mary and their intention to bring the Frozen Car to MTU. Jennifer immediately contacted Mary based on what she'd read in the article and enthusiastically offered her support. From that point the project was legitimized and rapidly moved forward.

Night View of Houghton/Hancock

Here is a view of Houghton and Hancock from inside the Mechanical Engineering building at MTU. You can see the draw bridge that connects the two cities.

John Aho

Last night John Aho, Organizer of the Winter Carnival, stopped by to say hello and take us to eat delicious Greek pizza at Studio Pizza and drink locally brewed Birch Beer at Keewenaw Brewing Company. During a conversation about cooking John told us, "The meaner the bird, the better the soup."

Mary Marks Off the Site

This afternoon we took a walk down to our designated site to get an idea of how much space is available to work with. The ice block will be approximately 7x17 feet.

Arrival in Houghton

We have settled into our apartment for two months at Michigan Tech. It's currently approximately 27ยบ F @ 2:00pm.
